Losing hair on Ozempic or Wegovy? The 5 hair vitamins I recommend to my clients, and why most don't make the cut.

Several weeks into Ozempic or Wegovy, a lot of women notice the same thing: more hair in the brush, in the drain, on the pillow.

You’re not imagining it.

What the research shows

A 2025 study found women on semaglutide had about twice the risk of hair loss of women on another weight-loss drug.

University of British Columbia, 2025

The drug isn’t attacking your hair. Your appetite is. When you’re eating a fraction of what you used to, protein, iron, zinc and vitamin D run short first, and hair is where your body saves.

There’s also a delay nobody mentions. The hair you lose today was pushed into shedding weeks ago, so whatever you give your follicles now shows up in the weeks ahead. Start sooner and it turns around sooner, without stopping your medication.

What to look for on semaglutide

  • 01Made for eating less, not for aging hair. Most hair formulas are designed around hormones or age. You need one built to fill the gaps a smaller appetite leaves behind.
  • 02A full spread, not one star ingredient. Biotin gets the headlines, but your shortfall is broader than that, so the formula has to be too.
  • 03Easy on a queasy stomach. Nausea is one of the most common side effects of semaglutide. If a vitamin is hard to swallow, it’s the first thing you’ll skip.

I put the five my clients ask about most against those three. One came out clearly ahead.

For my clients on semaglutide, this is the one I point them to first, because it’s the one they can actually keep taking.

It’s a complete blend: 5,000 mcg of biotin with vitamins A, C and E, the B group and zinc. Those are exactly the nutrients that run short when you’re eating a fraction of what you used to.

Two gummies a day. Vegan, plant-based, gluten-free, no fish, no gelatin. Nothing to force down on an empty stomach.

Most of my clients see less shedding within a couple of weeks, and their hair looks fuller and thicker by around the three-month mark. Usually, the first thing they tell me is that someone else noticed.

It works out to under a dollar a day, a fraction of what the big brands cost. Just so you know, it’s sold online, so you won’t see it on pharmacy shelves.

Nutrafol is effective, and it’s easy to see why so many women try it first. It’s built more for hormonal thinning than the rapid-loss kind, though.

It’s also four fish-based capsules a day, which is a lot to face when food itself is a chore. And at around $88 a month, nearly three times the price of WEEM, the full ninety days is a real commitment.

Honestly, with the results my clients already get from WEEM, I don’t see the need for most women to pay the extra.

Viviscal has a long track record, and the iron in it is relevant, since rapid weight loss can leave you running low. It also includes collagen.

It was slower to show results than the others, though, and it’s shark and fish based, so it isn’t an option if you’re vegan or have a seafood allergy.

A familiar drugstore name at a friendly price, gentle on a sensitive scalp, with B12 and vitamin D.

But it leans on biotin without the broader blend, and when you’re eating this little, one nutrient isn’t enough. It’s made with gelatin, so it isn’t vegan, and it didn’t match WEEM’s results in our testing.

A clean, vegan gummy from a long-trusted brand, with B vitamins, zinc and Fo-Ti.

The biotin dose is lower, around 2,500 mcg, and I saw smaller improvements than with the others on this list.

The shedding doesn't wait while you finish the list. Of the five, only one cleared every test.
